Discrimination of Chronic Schizophrenia and Organic Brain Syndrome by Hutt Adaptation of Bender Gestalt Test

Abstract
The authors tried to evaluate the discriminating power of Hutt Adaptation of Bender-Gestalt Test among the neurosis, chronic schizophrenia and organic brain syndrome.
The subjects were 29 neurotics, 20 chronic schizophrenics and the 21 cases of organic brain syndrome. The copy phase of HABGT was administered and the answer sheets were by the Psychopathology Scale and the Adience-Abience Scale.
The following results could be obtained.
1) The Psychopathology Scale could be estimated to have discriminating power neurosis from chronic schizophrenia, neurosis from chronic brain syndrome, and chronic Schizophrenia from organic brain syndrome.
2) Individual scales of Psychopathology Scale which was evaluated to have discriminating power among the three groups were the position, the first drawing, the collision, the closure difficulty, the change in angulation, the perceptual rotation, the fragmentation, the overlapping difficulty and the perseveration.
3) The Adience-Abience Scale also was proved to have disciminating power neurosis from organic brain syndrome and chronic schizophrenia from organic brain syndrome.
But this scale failed in the discrimination of neurosis and chronic schizophrenia.
4) Individual scales of the Adience-Abience Scale which proved to have a discriminating power among the three groups were the height and width, the placement of the first figure, the clolsure difficulty, the crossing difficulty, the change in angulation, the simplification and the elaboration.
